Birdseed, or bird seed, is defined as any seed or blend of seed for feeding birds. So why would a web-based company call themselves that? Great question.
We considered many names for the brand. Many of them explained what we did or were very clever, but were too technical. We needed a name that represented what our tool did and was easy to understand. Of course, one now also has to consider if the domain name is available and the ease or difficulty in winning that search term organically. Our founder, Drew, had a eureka moment one night. He came up with the correlation between birds and customers, and ergo the name BirdSeed.
Imagine you want to attract many birds to your backyard and you want them to stay as long as possible. There is no way to know what types of birds may visit, so you use a blend of different foods to feed more birds. This keeps them longer and ensures they remember YOUR yard to revisit.
We’ve learned that you can attract website visitors in a similar way. Because of their communication preferences, buying cycle stage, and your ability to respond in real-time, you need a blend of tools to engage them more, make them want to stay longer, and come back later.

.Io domains are recognizable, and even embraced by the tech and startup communities. Although dot coms are popular, very often people correlate these domains to a desktop application or website.
